The Travel Training programme has now been running successfully across Hertfordshire for over 10 years, within the last five years alone, they have supported over 150 young people with SEND to become independent travellers on public transport between home and college.
The team works with students on a one to one basis to give them confidence, support, advice and guidance to develop their independent skills. As a result, the Travel Training team have developed a parent toolkit, which parents and carers can use to engage their children and young people and support them on their journey towards independent travel. It contains the areas they should cover, strategies they can use; some top tips as well as a useful resources section.
There are two versions, one which is an interactive, online copy and the other which is printer-friendly, so they can print it off and use it in the way that best suits you. This can be found on the new and updated local offer website, alongside some information regarding the programme.
