World Book Day 2023
World Book Day is a well-loved annual event, and this year has been no exception!
Pinewood has been filled with colourful clothing and creative props. Pupils and staff alike dressed as their favourite book characters, and spent the day immersed in different literary worlds, with class activities ranging from stop frame animations, to creating class books.
Pinewood continues to instil a love of reading in our young people, and it has been so rewarding to see our keen readers in action.

Mr Baines’ Vlog 03-02-2023
Here’s Mr Baines VLog for this week.
Delayed Santa Dash!
Congratulations to all our Santa Dash runners; we really did go the extra mile in today’s fun run! With the weather resulting in 2 previous attempts being re-arranged, today’s conditions were perfect! Pupils throughout the school lined up across the playground and field in anticipation of the start whistle. Participants walked or ran the course, many dressed in Santa Suits, Santa Beards or Santa Hats! The atmosphere was magical!
The 30-minute event resulted in Pinewood pupils dashing 1022 laps, raising a whopping £1,391.62 for Pinewood’s PTFA. Amazon vouchers were awarded as class prizes for:
Class Cox | Class with the most laps – short course |
Castellon | Class with the most laps – long course |
Class Keller | Class with the most sponsorship |
Class Beckham (Mrs Klein) | Best Santa Suit |
Class Grey Thompson (Zoe) | Best Santa Hat |
Class Beckham (George) | Best Santa Beard |
Class Keller | Best Medal Design (for December 2023) |
Class Ali (Jay & James) | Best effort |
A big “Thank You” to you – the PTFA – parents, families and staff. And, of course, to all our pupils. It was lovely to see so many receiving certificates and medals for their participation in such a fabulous event.
Save the Date: The next Santa Dash is on: Friday 1st December 2023.
With thanks,
Mr Goss (KS3 Class Teacher – Group ‘Wonder’)

New Free Youth Wellbeing Service for Herts

New free service to help young people manage their worries.
With YOUth – Children & Young People’s Digital Wellbeing Service, Hertfordshire’s children and young people, who are experiencing emotional health problems and/or their parents/caregivers, can now use a new free digital wellbeing service, without the need for a professional referral.
Asking for advice and help early, is the healthy, safe and positive choice for having good emotional and mental wellbeing – far better than trying to cope alone with worry and overwhelming feelings. This new free service is for children and young people aged 5-18, who are registered with a GP in Hertfordshire. It will initially be available from Monday to Friday, 2-10pm at: www.withyouth.org providing:
● Instant online messaging
● Helpline: 0208 189 8400
● Lumi Nova (most suitable for ages 7-12) – therapeutic digital gaming app providing goal based help for social/separation anxiety and/or phobias, using the most beneficial parts of Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT). Access via the link is instant (no referral needed)
● Worksheets, quick tips and other resources to help
● Additional one-to one and/or group support
● Signposting to other services
The With YOUth team can help with problems such as mild to moderate anxiety, behavioural difficulties, school attendance, low mood, relationship difficulties, bullying or self-harm. The service is not for children and young people who are in crisis*.
With YOUth/Lumi Nova is part of Hertfordshire’s Children and Adolescent Mental Health Services (CAMHS) System Redesign Programme. The Programme has made an ongoing commitment to improving access to emotional and mental wellbeing support at the earliest point.
Find out how Lumi Nova helped 11 year old Maisie to manage her anxiety in this short two minute report: ‘Anxiety app helped me at my new school’ says Essex pupil – BBC News
