Our Y11’s left us in June. All have been offered college places following a strong transition programme. Transition to college began at the start of the year. A September newsletter was sent out detailing how to apply for college. All applications had to be made by Christmas break, and via the school so we could update our records, as well as include qualification reports. We had a College Focus Week in November where we took students to visit different colleges – Hertford Regional College, Oaklands and North Herts College. We looked at the differences of teaching, uniform, layout, etc. between school and college.
The college transition workers began visiting Y11’s in January. This became regular, once or twice a week visits, as the year progressed. They sat in classes, talked to teachers and found out exactly what each student would need to make a smooth transition into college. Once interviews were completed the placement offers were sent out. The college and/or school organised taster days for individuals/groups of students as per the college request. The transition workers are supportive of our Y11’s, attending the leavers assembly this year and forging relationships with families.
Now having left us, our Y11’s are looking forward to the summer drop in sessions/days that their college offers in order to maintain that relationship until they start in September.
