Our school ethos is based on the principle that learning never ends. All Students, Parents, Staff and Visitors are encouraged to embrace the idea that we are all learners, hence our motto,
Learning and Growing Together
We aim to inspire learners of all types of need and abilities to develop a lifelong love of learning. We believe this is achieved through developing a sense of curiosity that will stay with people throughout their adult life.
We aim for all learners to develop a sense of self-confidence borne out of an understanding that they have the ability to make a positive contribution to all aspects of life.
Our ambition is for learners to leave Pinewood ready for and enthused about the next stages of their education, supported by a strong sense of personal achievement and success. Alongside this, learners will gain realistic understanding of life and the sense that not everything goes their way and that it’s ok to ‘get it wrong.’
For learners to achieve this, we aim:
to provide a curriculum that is enjoyable, flexible and focused on the future needs and aspirations of pupils.
to provide teaching which enables learners to reach their potential and that is based on a thorough understanding of learners needs.
to provide experiences that expose learners to calculated risk and enable them to learn to assess those risks and understand what actions they need to take to stay safe.
At Pinewood we commit to promoting British Values
- Democracy and the understanding of the individual’s contribution to living in a democratic society
- the rule of law and how this leads to a safer world in which to live
- individual liberty and the right to self-determination as far as it doesn’t conflict with the rights of others
- mutual respect for and tolerance of those with different faiths and beliefs and for those without faith.
We value and promote the right to live a safe and healthy lifestyle amongst their peers, understanding that physical, mental and emotional health all play a part in everyone’s lives. We aim to provide a curriculum that encourages the aesthetic (Art, Music and Drama), the physical (Outdoor Learning and participation in sporting activity) and the academic.
We value and promote independence and the ability for an individual to self-advocate wherever possible through verbal, written or other means of supported communication.
We value and promote an attitude that encourages everyone to try their best
