Pinewood School gives Year 11 pupils the opportunity to take certain responsibilities within the school community. Those pupils chosen to be Prefects have shown that they can be role models for other pupils in school.
There is no specific number of Prefects. Any pupil who shows that they are ready for this kind of responsibility can be made a prefect at any time during Year 11. Prefects support younger pupils and their school duties vary, but it is usually Prefects who are chosen to represent the school on formal occasions, or to speak to the many visitors who come to school.
Everyone easily identifies Prefects as they wear white polo shirts and black sweatshirts as well as having a black and gold Prefect’s badge. The system is proving to be very successful as it provides Year 10 and 11 pupils a goal to work towards which improves their self-esteem and confidence.
