Pinewood caters for all students within the autistic spectrum by: –
- providing a safe and supportive environment
- creating a structured approach to learning
- providing students with individualised programmes
- developing staff knowledge in the field of autism
Students within the autistic spectrum are supported in many ways. They have their needs met through the structure, routine and visual support provided in the classroom and by the social and emotional activities that form pat of Pinewood’s curriculum.
Pinewood provides structures and routines to support them in their daily activities at Pinewood. All students receive a visual timetable showing their lessons for the week. Some students receive detailed visual timetables for each day and for each lesson. The level of support varies according to the needs of each individual.
The autism provision places a strong emphasis on staff development. We aim to train and develop each member of staff in order that they are well informed of both the theory in the field of autism and the needs of the individuals within the autistic spectrum at Pinewood.
