The pupils had been attending Wheelchair Rugby training sessions, with expert coaching and support from Great Britain Wheelchair Rugby, at Pinewood School on Monday afternoons since September.
Pinewood’s Wheelchair Rugby team consisted of Jason Adjekum-Mensah (Y11), Josh Barklem, Griffith Biembongo (Y9), Albie Woodward and Tomi Adebisi (Y8).
The team won there opening 2 matches in their group thanks to tries from Jason Mensah and Griffith Biembongo. They then faced tough matches against very strong opposition from Exeter and Ospreys. Pinewood progressed to the shield final where they met Northampton Saints. All students played incredibly well in the final and Pinewood won the match 15-11.
All Pinewood students and staff had a fantastic day and thoroughly enjoyed the tournament, whilst representing both themselves and the school to the best of their ability. Pinewood Saracens pupils were awarded with medals and the winner’s shield at the end of the GB Wheelchair Rugby Youth Tournament. Pinewood would like to thank GB Wheelchair Rugby for their continued support of the wheelchair rugby programme in the school.
